Watching and listening to American Senator Bernie Sanders speak about Trump’s recent comments on Ukrainian leader Zelensky and his people, I’m overwhelmed by a helpless fear about the way the world is turning. It feels as though the number of people who speak the truth and stand bravely for it is shrinking.
I’ve witnessed this decline across every sphere of human life—religion, civil service, education, the corporate sector, NGOs, and even within family circles and personal relationships. Misinformation spreads faster than truth, leaders prioritize ambition over integrity, and the courage to dissent is increasingly punished rather than honored. It’s as if we’re living in the final days of integrity, like the last of the Mohicans standing against an unstoppable tide, watching as honesty becomes an endangered virtue in a world that seems to reward deception.
