Digital Innovation Lab – using artificial intelligence, media, storytelling for change and income.

I was privileged to take lead in facilitating a break-out session during the 3rd Adolescent and Young People Living with HIV Symposium (9–11 Sept 2025) at the Civil Service College, Jinja, organized by St. Francis Health Care Services. The two-hour, minds-on session brought together about 80 young participants, supported by St. Francis and partner organizations.

The session focused on how youth can use digital media for advocacy, community engagement, and business opportunities.

Inspiring examples of Ugandan youth making an impact through online platforms were shared, including:

  • Barbara Kemigisha – HIV activist and artist
  • Sarah Kigongo – promoting Uganda as a tourist hub
  • Christine – cosmetics entrepreneur in Jinja
  • The Ghetto Kids of Masaka

Participants also heard live success stories from:

  • Lubanga Hakim – once a learner in the Adobe Youth Voices Program, now a professional photographer, media mentor, and entrepreneur
  • Ssekalya Adrian – ICT student at Shadow Idol Youth Club, who presented a Canva poster addressing voter malpractice

It was particularly inspiring to see three of us—I, Hakim, and Adrian—representing three generations of purposeful digital media-driven education.

The session highlighted the creativity, confidence, and resilience of young people, and demonstrated the potential of digital tools to shape communities and futures.
