About Me

About me

Chole Richard is a freelance education practitioner with a keen interest in innovation, best practices, capacity building, youth empowerment, instructional design, and poetry. With over twenty years of experience as a secondary school teacher and approximately five years as an education specialist, Chole is passionate about experimenting with new learning methodologies and exploring creative approaches to education. He draws immense energy from working with young people especially through experiential, project-based learning programs across literature, the arts, sciences, and interdisciplinary fields.

Chole has worked with both local and international organizations on dynamic educational initiatives centered around youth development, girls’ empowerment, teaching best practices, ICT4E&D integration, and literary creativity, with a special focus on poetry.

Major Current Undertakings

  • Mentoring 105 primary school children from seven Jinja schools in a poetry writing project supported by Ventures for Good (USA).
  • Facilitating the launch of 100 ICT Clubs with Kisubi Associated Writers Agency (KAWA), in collaboration with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).
  • Mentoring 15 youth members of Shadow Idol, a club supported by St. Francis Health Care Services (Mbiko, Njeru Town Council, Buikwe District), through a six-month ICT and project-based learning program.

Co-facilitating an online course with Young Africa, implemented by Spur Technologies Limited, Uganda.

Practicing experiential program in literature studies for learners at PMM Girls’ School, Jinja.

One of his most fulfilling achievements was the publication of a poetry anthology in July 2022, featuring standout poems by his former students at PMM Girls’ School, Jinja. The anthology marked the culmination of three years of engaging, literature-rich learning experiences.

He is a member of the FEMRITE Uganda Writers and Readers Club, a vibrant community of storytellers and book lovers that meets every Monday at 5.00 PM at FEMRITE’s offices.

Current Research Dream

Chole has his sights on a long-term personal research project exploring a pre-colonial conflict between the Madi and Acholi peoples. Central to this research is a legendary battle that gave rise to the name “Laropi,” now a ferry crossing on the River Nile in Northern Uganda. According to oral tradition, the name  meaning “Let us hurry to cross the river!” commemorates the Acholi’s hurried retreat from Madi warriors.

Chole holds a Bachelor of Education (Languages and Literature) from Makerere University, Kampala, and a Diploma in Secondary Education (History and Languages) from the former Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK).
