Akwero Frankline Vivian, now 21 years old, is a lady of quiet sophistication. She is very present in public life with peers and yet secluded in the same measure when it comes to showing her capabilities. That is, until it reveals itself! Then you know an intelligent mind and hands has been at work in league with the heart. Results? Beautiful poems that sometimes touch delicately on the personal with which many a young girl can identify. Sometimes written with urgency of the moment and asking for attention! Sometimes, (very characteristic of Akwero’s poems), ending with an unexpected twist that throws you off-guard!
According to Akwero, she cannot put a finger on one item that inspires her to write. She is mainly driven by the spur of the moment.
As it is normally said, when a bulb lights up in your mind, (even in the middle of the night), leap out of your bed and put those hot ideas somewhere on a paper or so, lest they fade with the rising sun! Thankfully, Akwero professes to be faithful to this call: “Every time I got a surge of emotions, I would end up writing that down,” states Akwero. Like several of her peers who are contributors to this upcoming anthology, reading Akwero’s poems sometimes feel like privileged invitation to her private thoughts and feelings which propel her to write, but “… that doesn’t rule out the fact that I like to think of things that are beyond my emotions as well,” she states.
Clearly, Akwero is one who has a huge potential with a lot more to offer the world through poetry, if she lets herself to continue to grow and mature in the trade. Thankfully, she has big dreams in that regard: “One of my futuristic dreams in regard to poetry is to one day be able to recite one of my very own writings on a stage with a huge audience in attendance. Second to this, is having my very own Anthology published,” stated Akwero.
Akwero is now a finalist at Makerere University, Kampala, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in community psychology and spends her time living in Jinja and Kampala.
