Poetry anthology contributor – Illero Jamila

Illero Jamilah, 21 years old, was inspired by her teacher of literature right from senior one, interesting her in reciting poems, acting and several other creative activities.

I still vividly recall a captivating poem, “War Child”, written and recited by Illero at school. It is quite an evocative relieving of the gruesome and traumatising war experiences faced by young people during the war insurgencies in Northern Uganda and eastern Uganda where illero hails from. We must tell our stories – the bad and the good.  This poem, written so beautifully and effortlessly by this young lady cannot, unfortunately, cannot be traced anywhere! It’s lost! Illero and company, please, find it!

Personal challenges in life have also spurred her on with writing poetry, which have become her much needed channel to offload emotional burgage.

She is spending much of her senior six vacation in Jinja having completed studies at PMM Girls’ School in 2021.
